CITIZENSHIP

CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

Citizenship is a new national curriculum foundation subject at Key stages 3 and 4. It gives students the knowledge, skills and understanding to become informed, active and responsible members of the College, local, national and global communities. It promotes their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, making them more self-confident. There are three main strands to the programme of study:

  • Knowledge and understanding about become informed citizens;
  • Developing skills of enquiry and communication; and
  • Developing skills of participation and responsible action.

Citizenship will be delivered through a combination of PSHCE, other curriculum subjects, College activities and community events.

Assessment and reporting arrangements will be similar to other national curriculum subjects.

Citizenship was recognised by Ofsted as "Excellent" in March 2003.
