HISTORY

KS3

Keystage 3
History is one of the foundation subjects on the National Curriculum. You will be building on the knowledge and skills that you have gained in History at Key Stage 2.

The emphasis is on acquiring historical skills and gaining an understanding of events in the past and how they have shaped things today. We often look at evidence written by people in the past who were involved with the events you will learn about.

Groupings
Each class has three lessons of History per fortnight in Year 7, two periods per week in Year 8 and one period per week in Year 9.

You will be taught in mixed ability class sets in Years 7 - 9. You may be given different tasks according to your ability and interest.

Year 7: Medieval British History (1066-1485) with a special topic on the History of Islam (7th Century to the Middle Ages).

Year 8: British Tudor and Stuart History with a special project on the French Revolution.

Year 9: 19th and 20th Century History with particular emphasis on the First and Second World Wars.

Trips to sites of historical interest or to museums may be organised during the year for all the age groups.

Assessment
Students' work is frequently marked according to the College Assessment Policy and target settings are based on this. There is no official SATs examination in History but a level is awarded at the end of Year 9. During this year specific pieces of work are set with SATs requirements as their basis in addition to the normal ongoing assessment.
