Dear Parents, A warm welcome back to the new academic year. I hope you have all enjoyed the summer and managed a break at sometime. I especially welcome our new parents of Year 7 and Year 12. I am so pleased that you have joined our Askean community. The six weeks has flown by. The time has been well used by our facilities teams to work on the fabric of the buildings. The highlight of course was the August results. Many, many congratulations to all our students who have done so very well. Thank you too for supporting and helping them.

We are particularly proud of the achievement in Maths and English which we recognise as vital. It is outstanding at Hatcham and improving rapidly at Knights. This must always be our focus. Overall figures of course hide individual successes and there are many that we have highlighted in assemblies and to Governors. The opening of the Federation Sixth Form this week marked another first for us. There was a marvellous atmosphere at the inaugural event on the 5th September with all our Year 12’s together in Knight’s inspiring new building, over 200 of them. The Sixth Form has always been a great strength of Hatcham and now will be for the Federation of Knights and Hatcham. These young people are our role models and leaders and we look forward to working with them. They and our Year 13 are exceptional students of which we can all be very proud.
Federation Sixth Form opening, September 2007
The Haberdashers’ Federation Combined Cadet Force (CCF) has begun and I hope many of our Year 10’s will benefit from the opportunities offered through this exciting initiative. I know from our Duke of Edinburgh experience that Haberdasher youngsters love adventure training. I will be busy this year with our primary school proposal for Hatcham and our hopes for a 3rd academy in Bexley. We are also working with a school in Bristol to guide it towards academy status. I will, of course, also spend much time in and around our two schools meeting parents and working with staff and students in any way that I can to assist our Principals as they lead us towards yet another year of Haberdasher successes. Governors and parents are invited to get together at Hatcham on 24th September and at Knights on 1st October. We take your views seriously and I look forward to keeping in touch at these and many other occasions. My e-mail address is se-sidwell@hahc.org.uk and my PA, Mrs Kim Barlow can be contacted at sk-barlow@hahc.org.uk and on 020 7652 9516. With best wishes and thank your for your support. |
