We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and innovative person to support and deputise for the Head of Supported Learning and the SEN team in meeting the needs of all students to enable all students to access a high quality education. The role includes the promotion of literacy across the curriculum..

The posts carry a requirement for enhanced disclosure (under the provisions of the Police Act 1997). The Federation will require you to give permission to carry out a disclosure.

JOB DESCRIPTION and PERSON SPECIFICATION

Purpose:

To deputise for the Head of Supported Learning/Inclusion Manager within the context of the Academy’s aims, policies and development plan. To support the Head of Supported Learning in meeting the needs of all pupils either on the AEN profile or who are referred by members of staff. To promote the ethos of Educational Inclusion enabling all students to access a high quality education and to achieve their full potential.

To promote literacy across the curriculum and to raise standards of literacy for all.

Specific Responsibilities:
To:

  • Deputise for the Head of Supported Learning as and when the need should arise
  • Oversee and manage the interventions put in place within Supported Learning e.g. Curriculum Programme, Literacy & Numeracy withdrawal tuition
  • Teach identified groups of students with a variety of AEN in order to raise standards of literacy/numeracy
  • Together with the Head of Supported Learning co-ordinate the assessment of students’ individual needs, oversee the completion of IEPs (Students with Statements of SEN) and Annual Reviews, ensuring suitable records are kept
  • Manage the assessment of students and assist in the dissemination of information, advising on examination entries as appropriate
  • Assist in the maintenance, review and update of the AEN profile
  • Assist with performance management of the Teaching Assistants
  • Advise and support teaching staff with regard to teaching methods, resources and the needs of groups or individuals on the AEN profile
  • Assist in the Continuous Professional Development for staff in relevant areas e.g. differentiation, behaviour management, appropriate teaching strategies
  • Promote effective liaison with other schools and professional agencies
  • Liaise with parents/carers of students on the AEN profile to ensure good communication and consultation
  • Co-ordinate, promote and ensure that Literacy Across the Curriculum is an integral part of the Academy’s educational ethos

In line with the Academy’s developmental aims:

  • Develop strategies for more effective learning, especially with regard to teaching styles and differentiation within subject areas
  • Keep abreast of local and national changes with regard to legislation and good practice surrounding Literacy, Inclusion, Every Child Matters, the Disability & Discrimination Act and the SEN Code of Practice

Person Specification:

We are seeking to appoint someone who:

  • Has or is working towards QTS
  • Has a Specialist Teaching qualification e.g. Spld (Dyslexia)
  • Has an interest in developing and raising the profile of Literacy across the Academy
  • Has experience and preferably some responsibility within a Supported Learning department
  • Is energetic and enthusiastic
  • Is flexible and has a sense of humour
  • Is a strong team player, able to work with senior management, subject and pastoral teams
  • Has excellent personal management skills to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and support services
  • Good time management skills
  • Good personal organisation skills
  • Keen to pursue own continuous personal and professional development
