The Haberdashers’ Federation consists of two schools. Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College and Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy. Hatcham is a highly successful, leading edge, independent, all through (3-19) comprehensive school and is the lead school in the Federation of Academies.

We are seeking to appoint creative and talented teachers for TG Hatcham who are experienced in raising attainment. Experience of Foundation teaching would be welcomed.

Background Information

The Federation of Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College and Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy was set up by the Haberdashers’ Company in order to increase the availability of an Aske’s education to more students and to make wider use of the strengths that Aske’s has to offer.  

The two Academies are run as separate schools.    Each has its own Principal with an over-arching Chief Executive of the Federation, Dr E M Sidwell.

The Aske’s vision is one where all students in the Federation are inspired to reach their full potential, regardless of ability or background, where aspirations and achievements are constantly raised through the highest quality academic, personal and vocational teaching and guidance, and where the students and staff at the two Academies benefit from each other’s strengths.

Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College is an academically successful comprehensive school in New Cross, South London with a specialism in Music. In 2008, 95% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C GCSEs 94% of which included English and Mathematics. In September 2008 Temple Grove Hatcham opened the Primary Phase making Hatcham an all-through 3-19 Academy. Temple Grove Hatcham has 2 forms of entry and a Nursery. Children come from a variety of backgrounds and are well supported by the phase’s teaching team and leadership in attaining effective personalised learning .

Haberdashers’ Aske’s  Knights Academy opened in September 2005 on the site of Malory School in Launcelot Road, Bromley, and moved into an inspiring new building in April 2007. Its aim is to mirror Hatcham’s success;

Knights Academy is fully comprehensive and specialises in Sport. 10% of of students at Knights are be selected for their sports aptitude.    Achievement at Knights has risen since opening from 9% 5+ A*-C (predecessor school) to 52% in 2008.


Job Purpose:

The Class Teacher will:

  • Raise the standards of attainment of the pupils in their class
  • teach a class of pupils, and ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment and reporting meet their varying learning and social needs;
  • maintain the positive ethos and core values of the school, both inside and outside the classroom;
  • contribute to constructive team-building amongst teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and governors;
  • ensure that the current national conditions of employment for schoolteachers are met.


Duties:

The Class Teacher will:

  • implement agreed school policies and guidelines;
  • support initiatives decided by the Headteacher and staff;
  • plan appropriately to meet the needs of all pupils, through differentiation of tasks;
  • be creative in providing imaginative learning opportunities for pupils in the class
  • work effectively with Year group and phase partners to plan dynamic and effective learning schemes
  • be innovative in the use of ICT and a range of other resources to provide excellent and personalised learning
  • be able to set clear targets, based on prior attainment, for pupils’ learning;
  • provide a stimulating classroom environment, where resources can be accessed appropriately by all pupils;
  • keep appropriate and efficient records, integrating formative and summative assessment into weekly and termly planning;
  • report to parents on the development, progress and attainment of pupils;
  • maintain good order and discipline amongst pupils, in accordance with the school's behaviour policy;
  • participate in meetings to ensure the best provision for individual pupils is assured to meet their specific needs
  • participate in meetings which relate to the school's management, curriculum, administration or organisation;
  • communicate and co-operate with specialists from outside agencies;
  • lead, organise and direct support staff within the classroom;
  • participate in the performance management system for the appraisal of their own performance, or that of other teachers

Knowledge and understanding
The Class Teacher should have knowledge and understanding of:

the theory and practice of providing effectively for the individual needs of all children (e.g. classroom organisation and learning strategies);

statutory National Curriculum requirements at the appropriate key stage;

the revised primary Frameworks

the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements

the monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting of pupils’ progress;

the statutory requirements of legislation concerning Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, SEN and Child Protection;

the positive links necessary within school and with all its stakeholders;

effective teaching and learning styles.
In addition, the Class Teacher might also have knowledge and understanding of:

the preparation and administration of statutory National Curriculum tests;

the links between schools, especially partner schools.

promote the school’s aims positively, and use effective strategies to monitor motivation and morale;
