Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy is part of the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation, alongside two other Haberdashers’ Aske’s academies. Knights Academy aims to deliver a balanced and challenging, personalised curriculum throughout, ensuring accessibility to all. Knights Academy is primarily a specialist Sports academy with ICT as a strong second specialism, which educates young people aged between 11 and 18.
It is envisioned that a Primary phase will be introduced to the academy in due course, fulfilling our aim to be an all-through academy. We believe this will enhance the learning opportunities for students from our local area and give our students access to the benefits of the Haberdashers’ Aske’s educational tradition. This tradition, alongside innovative approaches to the curriculum, is part of every pupil’s lifelong learning journey which prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century.
Knights Academy is a happy, vibrant learning community in which a positive approach to learning is encouraged through a highly dedicated staff, whose sole aim is to unlock the potential of every child in our care. Behaviour for learning is encouraged through developing a sense of well-being for all and through a culture of high expectations and aspirations.
We want to be at the centre of our community and this is further enabled by our exceptional sporting facilities and the relationships that we have forged within the community at large. This also allows the students the opportunity to play a role within their community.
Our secondary curriculum is fashioned to meet the needs of our diverse student population and was described as “outstanding” by OfSTED in 2008. It our intention to provide the very best education that personalises the learning to meet the needs of the individual student. Our students learn in largely single-sex classes at KS3 and 4, an Askean tradition, and the evidence suggests it leads to better outcomes for both boys and girls. Students, of both genders, share form time and have numerous other opportunities for meeting each other in clubs, societies and other extra-curricular activities. Learning does not only occur in the classroom. All students are entitled to participate in a wide range of out of hours opportunities.
Leadership training is given to students from Year 7 onwards, culminating in a strong team of prefects led by the Head Boy and Head Girl.
Our Sixth Form is growing rapidly through our Federation with Hatcham College and this provides our senior students with exceptional learning opportunities and the prospect of a university education.
Sixth Formers help with mentoring and activities. A house system promotes a sense of belonging and participation. The sport specialism develops excellence and provides for the highest level of attainment for pupils showing aptitude in this specialist area but it also provides the impetus for excellence across the whole curriculum. We are immensely proud of the sporting achievements of the students of HAKA on a growing national sporting stage.
