Haberdashers Aske's Federation schools website

Introduction

The advantages of continuing in education after the age of sixteen are frequently stated and the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation is the ideal place to do so.

The Federation Sixth Form, opened in September 2007, comprises an already well-established Hatcham Campus at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College and the newer Knights Campus at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy.  In September 2011, we will be opening our Crayford Campus at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Crayford Academy.

Students joining us become part of an integrated Federation Sixth Form. Lessons and other activities will normally take place on one site. However, students can choose courses across the Federation for which transport is provided where necessary. With the expansion of the Knights and Crayford Campuses, there is capacity for a Federation Sixth Form of up more than six hundred students; a Sixth Form of this size is able to provide a full range of viable courses to suit the needs of all levels of ability and interest.

The Federation Sixth Form provides a wide-ranging and high quality curriculum as well as opportunities for students to participate in sporting, musical, cultural, community, employment and other activities. It is the expectation that Sixth Form students will honour all their commitments to Federation events and activities particularly in sport, music and drama.

We aim to create a hard-working, friendly and caring environment through the partnership of staff, students, parents, governors, employers and other friends.  Our ethos of hard work, aiming for excellence and giving back to the school and wider community is fundamental to our success and is at the core of everything we do.

The Director of Federation Sixth Form oversees the running of the three Sixth Form Campuses and is supported by a team of Sixth Form Co-ordinators and Personal Tutors, all of whom are on hand to offer guidance and support to our students throughout their two years. The Heads of Careers have targeted programmes for each student where needs are ascertained following assessment of skills and strengths.  We also put firm emphasis on our Volunteering Programme.  Our students continue into a wide range of Higher Education (including Oxbridge), Further Education (Music and Art Colleges) and employment.

There are regular events for the Sixth Form including the Winter Ball, the London UCAS Fair, Leadership Training, Masterclass Day and many more. Also popular are the termly ‘Federation Lectures’ from prominent speakers across a variety of topics, aimed at stretching the students and preparing them for university education.

To obtain a broad and balanced education Sixth Formers are strongly advised to take advantage of the variety of opportunities on offer in the Extension Studies Programme with a wide range of opportunities as diverse as music, sport, computing, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, photography, languages, cheerleading and cookery.  All subject areas, in addition to classroom based pursuits, will make some of the following available: field trips, work placements, visiting speakers, conferences, workshops and other off-site events. The Federation Sixth Form take an active part in the life of the school and act as role models for the younger students; in Year 13, they go on to form the selected team of prefects who help to lead our schools.

In order to facilitate the numbers of pupils going into Higher Education the Government introduced a scheme called ‘Aim Higher’. We are proud to be part of this and our part in getting more students into University than ever before.
