Haberdashers Aske's Federation schools website

Introduction

The advantages of continuing in education after the age of sixteen are frequently stated and the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation is the ideal place to do so. Opened in September 2005 joining the already well-established Sixth Form at Hatcham College with the new Sixth Form at Knights Academy.

The Federation provides a wide-ranging and high quality curriculum as well as opportunities for students to participate in sporting, musical, cultural, community, employment and other activities. It is the expectation that Sixth Form students will honour all their commitments to Federation events and activities particularly in sport, music and drama.

The Federation Sixth Form aims to create a hard-working, friendly and caring environment through the partnership of staff, students, parents, governors, employers and other friends.

Students joining us become part of an integrated Federation. Lessons and other activities will normally take place on one site, however, students can choose courses across the Federation for which transport is provided. With the expansion of the Knights Campus, there is capacity for a Federation Sixth Form of up to six hundred students; a Sixth Form of this size is able to provide a full range of viable courses to suit the needs of all levels of ability.

Personal tutors are on hand to offer guidance and support throughout the two years and for studies in Higher Education. Advice is also available from Sixth Form Co-ordinators, Head of Careers and Industrial Liaison, and from the Careers Officers. The careers department have a targeted programme for each student where needs are ascertained following assessment of skills, strengths and wants. Our students continue into a wide range of Higher Education (including Oxbridge), Further Education (Music and Art Colleges) and employment.

There are regular events for the Sixth Form including a Winter and Summer Ball where attendance is high. Also popular are the termly lectures from prominent speakers across a variety of topics.

To obtain a broad and balanced education Sixth Formers are strongly advised to take advantage of the variety of opportunities on offer in the Enrichment Activity programme. All subject areas, in addition to classroom based pursuits, will make some of the following available; field trips, work placements, visiting speakers, conferences, workshops and other off-site events. The Sixth Form body take an active part in the life of the school and act as role models for the younger students.

In order to facilitate the numbers of pupils going into Higher Education the Government introduced a scheme called ‘Aim Higher’. We are proud to be part of this and our part in getting more students into University than ever before.
