Address to Prospective parents considering admission to the Academy for September 2008 |
||
| Haberdashers' Aske's Knights Academy opened in September 2005 on the old Malory School site. In 2004 the Federation of Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College & Haberdashers' Aske's Knights Academy was set up by the Haberdashers' Company in order to increase the availability of an Aske's education to more students and make a wider use of the strengths that Aske's has to offer. Knights' students are full members of the Haberdashers' family of schools. We work closely with the highly successful Hatcham College and participate in activities with Haberdashers' schools across the country. I am happy to lead Knights Academy in its new premises, on to ever increasing achievement as we prepare young people for citizenship in the 21st century.

Facilities
The Academy curriculum is accessible, inclusive, challenging, flexible and on-line with e-learning, video-conferencing and wider understanding of the internet as an enabling factor. It is a curriculum for the 21st century, blending the best of academic and vocational elements.
ICT is not only be a 'tool' for learning but underpins the whole curriculum enabling collaboration and communication within local, national and global contexts.
The Academy is different from a normal school in that its curriculum will not necessarily be delivered within a classroom of four walls; it could even be delivered without a teacher. The Academy offers single sex teaching wherever possible in Years 7-11 and co-education for Post 16 courses.
Through the National Curriculum and Federation mission we aim to create an environment in which achievement is a prime factor. This is within a framework of equality of opportunity, spiritual, moral, cultural and social commitment and a balance of individual and institutional needs. Students are entitled to quality in all areas of their education and it is management's responsibility to ensure that this is maintained. A curriculum must demonstrate that it is providing value in relation to its resources.
As a sport specialst academy we offer 4 hours of curriculum Physical Education a week as well as out of hours opportunities for physical activities. Whilst aiming for the highest sporting achievement we are also committed to the concept of 'sport for all'. A healthy life style is vital to all young people and regular exercise contributes to this.
Our curriculum offers a wide range of opportunities for all students whatever their ability, interests and ambitions. We have a personalised approach providing the flexibility for progression at a time appropriate to the individual student.
Aims of the Academy
Wherever possible:
We work in partnership with parents to ensure our students achieve their very best. We want our leavers to be independent, creative, knowledgeable, responsive and proud of whatever they do in the future.
I look forward to continuing a strong partnership of students, parents, staff and the local community.
