An Outstanding Education in the heart of South London
Welcome to the Sixth Form at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College where we truly believe that all young people have the right to an ‘outstanding’ education and everyone can achieve their potential.
At the heart of our establishment is The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, one of the oldest and most respected educational providers in the country whose origin dates back hundreds of years. Steeped in tradition, a Haberdashers’ education goes beyond teaching, with every student member becoming a lifetime member of the Haberdasher family where they benefit from unrivalled networking and support opportunities through our Alumni Association.
Hatcham Sixth Form offers an academic education with student progress and achievement at the heart of its core values. We are committed to delivering personalised pathways and destinations for all, with our student body consistently being offered the largest number of Russell Group and Oxbridge places offered of any South London Academy. We pride ourselves on our exceptional Career and Higher Education guidance where pathways are tailored to the potential and aspirations of each individual student. We value all pathways and are proud of the diversity and achievements of our students, alumni and staff.
We instil a 'can do' attitude for all our Post 16 students, and support them in making full use of the excellent support, resources and contact available to achieve their goals. With eminent Alumni second to none, students are encouraged to aim exceptionally high and they are supported throughout the UCAS or apprenticeship application process with dedicated academic mentors and pathway specific programmes such as those aimed at students preparing to apply for Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Law and Oxbridge. We encourage our students to start their own societies and are very proud of our ‘Brainstorm’ magazine written by students studying STEM subjects, ‘Get Lit’ written by English Literature students and ‘Historia’ written by humanities students.
Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College combines tradition with innovation in all aspects of the Sixth Form provision. ‘The A Level Mindset’ pedagogy is paramount to our teaching and personal development programme and models to students how to become better learners at A Level; all students follow a transition programme in their first term of Year 12 which ensures that they have the study skills and strategies required for success at A Level and to tackle the new linear exam structure.
We consider it important that our students contribute to the local and wider communities and also have fun whilst learning. The Sixth Form takes pride in its traditional House system and students are encouraged to participate in a range of sporting, creative and charity fundraising events throughout their time at Hatcham. Student leadership is a real strength of the Sixth Form, where our prefects act as role models and provide support for our younger students in both the primary and secondary phases, lead change throughout the College and act as ambassadors for our frequent visitors and events.
We believe that enrichment is an essential part of the Sixth Form experience. Our committed staff provide stimulating opportunities to extend and enhance the A Level Curriculum with numerous inspiring and high profile guest speakers and trips and visits. We are the leading school locally for the Duke of Edinburgh Award and are extremely proud of the many students that complete the Gold Award. We also encourage students to participate in the NCS Challenge, the many mentoring programmes provided by our business partners and the many Sixth Form trips that are offered, with previous destinations including Cuba, New York, Chile, China and several European destinations.
Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College Sixth Form is exciting and vibrant and offers unparalleled and unforgettable experiences. We are both an academic and inclusive place to start one’s future and we very much look forward to working with students with a passion for their subjects, the will to succeed and make full use of all opportunities and the perseverance to ensure that they achieve their best and become integral parts of the community.
