What Are The Gatsby Benchmarks?
Good career guidance is critical if young people are to raise their aspirations and capitalise on the opportunities available to them, every young person needs high-quality career guidance to make informed decisions about their future. The Good Career Guidance Report identified a set of eight benchmarks which schools can use as a framework for evaluating their careers provision, the eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance are:
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing the needs of each pupil
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experiences of workplaces
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal guidance

Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College Career Service fully meet both the Gatsby Benchmarks and the Education Act 2011. Career Practice is an essential part of the transition process at Haberdashers’. The Career Service will support students development and ensure their successful transition with the provision of face to face impartial advice and guidance. The presence of career related activities provide the connection between learning and earning, you will find these incredibly useful as they will equip you with the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to enter and thrive in the working world.
Our Multi-Award Winning Qualified Careers Lead - Careers Guidance Practitioner, Mr Shenbanjo is the first point of contact for students who are thinking about their GCSE Options, Post-16 decision making or thinking about what their next step is Post-18. Last academic year, he has supported more than 627 students in KS3, 4 and 5 and has delivered more than 510hrs of face to face guidance to students, he has also helped a number of our Year 13 students secure prestigious Apprenticeships at Leading UK companies. Mr Shenbanjo provides students with a complete spectrum of information, advice and guidance, the bulk of the work is carried out during face to face consultations, he calls on his extensive knowledge of the post-16 / 18 landscape, labour market information, access routes for careers and recommended qualifications to be able to advise, guide and support students so they can decide on and gain access to the most appropriate and realistic next step.
