Health & Social Care

What is the subject about?

The BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care is a new KS4 qualification replacing the old-style BTEC Awards. It combines both external exams with internal assessment projects and is an essential qualification for students who are interested in working in a health-related sector or in social care.

Students will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of transferable skills on the course which are valued by employers, colleges and sixth forms. Topics studied include Human Lifespan Development and Health and Social Care Services, exploring issues such as rights and responsibilities and effective communication skills.

What do employers say about this subject?

Developments in frontline health and social care mean there is a demand for well trained and multi-skilled people across a range of rewarding employment opportunities. Health and Social Care is one of the biggest and fastest growing sectors in the UK. Employers recognise the skills that BTEC demonstrates such as the ability to work independently, to meet deadlines and to apply theory to real life situations.
