Learning Resources Centre (LRC)

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC)

Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham is lucky enough to have not just one library but two. Each site (the lower school and upper school) has its own library which means books and learning material can be carefully curated to support students throughout all stages of their learning. Both LRCs have a wide range of non-fiction books, study guides and text books that complement students’ lessons. We also have an exciting and up-to-date variety of fiction that ensures that there’s something for everyone and reading for pleasure is never a problem!

We also run a variety of events in the LRC including poetry competitions, author visits and quizzes. We believe reading should be fun and, above all else, we want the LRC to be a place where students can enjoy choosing books that interest them – a key way in which libraries can help cultivate students who read for pleasure. We also celebrate World Book Day and National Poetry Day each year.  We believe that literacy is the foundation of all knowledge and we would like to encourage all our students to read as much and as widely as they can.

Opening times

Monday – Friday                             8.00am – 4.00pm
  • Students can borrow 3 books for 3 weeks and 1 DVD.  To borrow you must have your card on you or proof of your name.
  • Books may be renewed if you need longer to read them.
  • DVDs must be returned the following day – OVERNIGHT LOAN only.
  • We strongly advise never to borrow a book for another student as this causes complications if it gets lost or damaged.

Our team

  • Mrs Tarneberg – LRC manager -  a.tarneberg@haaf.org.uk
  • Ms Lanham
  • Ms Rooney
  • Ms Cadogan

All the members of the team work at both the Pepys and Jerningham sites, so we get to know students from the upper and lower schools. Between us, we have a wide range of expertise and if we don’t know the answer to something we can always point you in the right direction!

All students have access to Eclipse from school or their home computers or tablets - the Library Management System – and are able to search for books, read and write reviews, download ebooks and reserve copies for themselves.

You can access Eclipse by clicking on this text.

Searching for books and DVDs

You can search for books using the Author’s surname, Keyword or Title.  There is also a more advanced search if you wish. The book or DVD that you are looking for will be highlighted and it will show which site that it is on and how many copies we have, also whether it has been borrowed.  Red is for borrowed but if it is green, it should be on the shelf.

Book lists

To help you decide what to read next we've prepared some helpful reading lists which you’ll find on Eclipse.  The LRC staff is always happy to recommend books so if you’re not sure what to read next just ask us!
