Creative iMedia Level 1/2 Certificate (J817)

Media Studies is an option discipline incorporating creativity, analytical skills and critical thinking skills which are valued by further education institutions. In order to study Media Studies at KS4 you will need to have a good understanding of a full range of media products including print media (newspapers and magazines), broadcast media (TV, radio and film) whilst also being prepared to offer creative skills in the construction of a film, a print based product and photography as all coursework briefs centre on these areas. You should also understand the importance of being analytical, self-evaluating and able to demonstrate an understanding of research and planning skills which will also be the focus of the written exam.

R081: Pre-production skills

 

Planning is an essential part of working in the creative and digital media sector. This unit will enable learners to acquire the underpinning knowledge and skills needed to create digital media products and gain an understanding of their application.

R082: Creating digital graphics

 

Digital graphics feature in many areas of our lives and play a very important part in today’s world.

The digital media sector relies heavily on these visual stimulants within the products it produces, to communicate messages effectively.

R089: Creating a digital video sequence

 

The unit will enable learners to understand where digital video is used in the media industry such as television, film, web applications or computer gaming. The learner will also learn how these technologies are developed to reach an identified target audience.

In this unit learners will learn about different types of digital photographic equipment, features and settings used in digital photography, how to plan a photo shoot and how to present their portfolios.
