School Direct information

Hatcham College has been linked with a number of universities for many years experienced in training PGCE students within most subjects linked with four major training providers in London. We now take PGCE/ School Direct student teachers (STs) in almost all subject areas and work closely with the Institute of Education and Goldsmiths College.

Here at Hatcham College we enjoy having a large number of trainees in the College and it brings many benefits. We have an increased number of adults able to work with pupils in the classroom, our teachers value the new ideas and approaches of the trainees and we are able to recruit excellent teachers to our staff.

Currently all our School Direct training is completed in collaboration with the IOE.

The Institute of Education (IOE) has been providing first-class teacher training, in partnership with schools and colleges for over 100 years. Founded in 1902, as a teacher training college in London, the IOE is now a world-class research and teaching institution. IOE graduates are highly sought after in schools and colleges throughout London and the UK. Its central location in historic Bloomsbury means that you are in the heart of London. The London Underground station at Russell Square is minutes from the main building and King's Cross St Pancras and Euston stations are close by.

You will join the School Direct Salaried programme at the Institute of Education and have full access to the University's facilities. The Salaried programme involves attending a programme of lectures and workshops at the Institute for approximately 15 days spread over a year. These sessions will engage with generic and specific subject areas and will encourage you to become a reflective teacher through tutorials, visits to school and guidance with assignments.

Completing the course will lead to the award of QTS.
